Why did you become a drone pilot?
I joined the British Army as a Main Battle Tank crewman at 16 and after completing 12 years in a combat role, I decided to use the experiences and skills gained to retrain as a Tactical UAS Commander/Pilot in the Royal Artillery. This enabled me to bring the ground level situational awareness I had accrued from multiple tours of Iraq and Kosovo, “into the box” (Ground Control Station).
How is it to work during these times?
Not being able to work during the initial lockdown in the UK was exceedingly difficult and continues to be so. We have strict testing procedures in place before we travel and once we arrive at our place of work, and we continue to isolate as much as possible. Coupled with our limited exposure to the outside world, especially when on a vessel, allows us to continue the work required in a safe and manageable environment.
How do you find working at Nordic Unmanned?
Since my arrival at Nordic Unmanned, back in early 2019, I have constantly been made to feel welcome and supported in all aspects. The team here are the utmost professionals and leaders in their field. Having a strong and supportive team such that Nordic Unmanned has really helped us operationally and enabled us to push on to the next level.
